Women’s Soccer Earns Third Consecutive Academic Award

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College women's soccer team recently received the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award for the 2012-2013 academic year. This marks the third straight year the Cobras have won this award, which is given to teams that excel on the field as well as in the classroom.

"Winning this award is such an honor," said women's head coach Dan Muns. "As a team, we set goals before every season, and this is always one of them. I want our players to not only be successful in the win-loss column, but also in the classroom. Getting this award again just speaks volumes about how hard these young women work day in and day out."

In order to qualify for the team academic award, a program must have a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the academic year. Rostering a team of 27, the Coker women's soccer team posted a 3.14 team GPA during the 2012-13 season.

A total of 862 college soccer teams posted a team GPA of 3.0 or higher during the 2012-2013 academic year. The Cobras were one of the 593 women's teams to surpass the required GPA.
