Cobras Shut Out Trojans, 2-0

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker women's soccer team defeated the Mount Olive Trojans 2-0 on Wednesday (Oct. 16) night at the Coker Soccer Field, in a nonconference meeting.

Freshman Salina Maynard got the scoring started after she received a long cross from Jalynn Fortt, and tapped the pass into the right corner of the Trojan net to give Coker the 1-0 lead.  The two teams would battle to end the first half, but the Cobras would head into the break with a one goal advantage.

Mount Olive had a chance to tie the game in the 57th minute of the second half on a breakaway, but a diving save from goalkeeper Lizz Morris prevented the goal to keep the Trojans off the scoreboard.  Morris would finish the game with six saves.

The duo of Fortt to Maynard would strike again late in the second half, when Fortt sent a free kick into the box where Maynard was waiting to head the ball into the back of the net to put Coker up 2-0 and preserve the win.

Coker will be back in action this Saturday (Oct. 19) to host Carson Newman in a SAC competition.  Kick-off is set for 4:30 p.m.
