Cobras Fall 2-1 to Braves in Season Opener

HARTSVILLE, S.C. -  The Coker women's soccer team fell in their home opener, 2-1 on Thursday (Sept. 5) to the Braves of UNC Pembroke.  The loss drops the Cobras to 0-1 and improves the Braves to 1-0.

The first half saw limited action as both teams battled for the lead position. Although UNCP threatened in the first 45 minutes with 11 shots, junior goalkeeper Lizz Morris kept the scoreboard clean.

It appeared that the second half would shadow the first, until the 64th minute when UNCP's Claire Tracy fired a shot into the back of the net to take a 1-0.  The Braves kept the pressure on and scored again just three minutes later to advance their lead to 2-0.

The Cobras responded with a goal of their own, when Jalynn Fortt controlled a cross from Jessi Campos to hit nylon and make it a close 2-1 game.  Coker threatened to tie the score with five more second half shots, but could not land another goal to tie the game.

Coker will look to rebound this weekend when they travel to face Lander on Saturday (Sept. 7).  Game time is set for 4:30 PM.
