Cobra Women Fall to Crusaders 4-1

HARTVILLE, S.C. – The Cobra women's soccer team was unable to come up with a win in their Conference Carolinas match against Belmont Abbey College on Tuesday night. The Crusaders defeated Coker 4-1 behind a pair of Nicole Voets goals.

The Crusaders netted the first two goals of the match in the opening 10 minutes of play, a pair of unassisted goals the first from Voets and the second from Ananda Gebreyesus.

Coker cut the lead in half with a header from Sarah Rountree (Plantation, Fla.) off a free kick from Cassie Callahan (Fayetteville, N.C.) in the 18th minute. The Abbey regained the two goal lead just before the end of the half thanks to a one-timer by Alexa Hale with an assist from Rebecca Mateo.

Voets put home her second goal of the match to make it a 4-1 game with a penalty kick in the 61st minute.

Lizz Morris (Stillwater, N.Y.) had seven saves in the net for the Cobras, while Simone Melvin had a single save and earned the win in the goal for the Crusaders.

Coker will play their final regular season match of the season on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at home against St. Andrews.
