HARTSVILLE, S.C.  – The Coker Cobras women's soccer team opened their season at home with a tough 1-0 loss to USC Aiken in overtime.  The winner was scored by Columbia, S.C. native and freshman Nicollete Rigon (96:41, unassisted).  

Dan Muns' opener did not go quite as he planned, but there were many bright spots for the Cobras.  Freshman keeper Lizz Morris (Stillwater, N.Y.) made 10 saves in her first collegiate game.  The entire team kept an upbeat, physical style of play for the entirety of the game.  

USC Aiken sophomore keeper Melissa Westphal (Springfield, Va.) kept the game at 0-0 late in the second half with a brilliant save on a shot by junior Sarah Kinsey (Windermere, Fla.).  The Pacers took a total of 24 shots, landing 11 on net.  Rigon picked up her first goal of the season for the winner.

The Cobras next game will be at home against Lander University at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 3.
