HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College is pleased to announce the hiring of Dan Muns as its new Head Women’s Soccer Coach. Muns becomes the seventh coach to lead the Cobra women.
Muns comes to Coker from Columbus State University where he was the assistant coach for the Cougar women since the program’s inception in 2004. In just seven seasons, Muns helped build the Columbus State program into a NCAA Division II regional and national power. The Cougars have advanced to the NCAA National tournament for the last five years, including finishing the 2010 season ranked #7 nationally with a record of 19-2-1.
“I am very excited and honored to be selected as the next women’s soccer coach at Coker,” said Muns. “This is great time to be a part of the Coker community. There is an energy throughout the campus that I know will help us develop successful women’s soccer players both on the field and in the classroom.”
A United States Soccer Federation (USSF) “B” License holder, Dan has coached four All-Americans, three Scholar All-Americans, 21 All-Region, six Scholar All-Region, two Peach Belt Freshman of the Year, 28 All-Conference, 19 All-Tournament and three Peach Belt Tournament MVP players during his time at Columbus State. In addition to his USSF License, Dan holds National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Goalkeeping Diplomas I & II.
“We are very excited to have Dan join the Coker family,” said Director of Athletics Lynn Griffin. “He brings a wealth of coaching experience and a vision for success to the women’s soccer program. I feel his experience in developing a program from scratch at Columbus State has prepared him to recruit the type of student-athlete that will thrive at Coker College.”
A graduate of Columbus State, Muns holds a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and is currently pursuing his Masters in Public Administration from CSU. In addition to his college coaching experience, Dan has coached youth soccer for more than 14 years and has served as the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Calvary Christian School in Columbus.
“I want to thank Lynn Griffin and Coker President Dr. Robert Wyatt for giving me the opportunity to be the leader of the women’s soccer program,” added Muns. “My family and I are very happy to be the newest members of the Coker family.”
The Coker women will begin their off-season training under Muns’ leadership when classes resume in January. Their first season with Muns at the helm will begin in September of 2011.
