DUE WEST—Freshman Molly Harpe (Anderson, SC) scored two first half goals and assisted on another to lead the Erskine Women’s Soccer team to a 7-0 win over Conference Carolinas foe Coker College Saturday afternoon at Huggins Field. Harpe’s goals were Erskine’s first of the season after the Fleet had dropped their opening four games on the road to shutouts.

Harpe started the scoring at 6:21 when sophomore Lindsay Patterson (Lexington, SC) struck a beautiful pass to freshmen Kimrey Angotti-Smith who took the pass on the right wing and centered it perfectly to Harpe. Thirteen minutes later sophomore Emily Wentzky led Harpe with a run out pass at midfield. Harpe sped past the Coker defense and rifled the goal past Coker goalie Margaret McCoy (Columbia, S.C.) to put the Fleet up, 2-0. Harpe nearly completed the hat trick at 29:40 but her attempt bounded off the goal. Patterson was on the spot for the Fleet and rebounded the miss and hit a high floater over McCoy to put the Fleet up, 3-0. Erskine punched home a 4th goal with 40 seconds to play in the opening half when Freshman Erin Gray’s (Columbia, SC) indirect kick was taken in the air fellow freshman Talisa Vire (Trinidad-Tobago) who headed the pass into the back of the net.

Erskine pushed the lead to 5-0 eleven minutes into the 2nd half when freshman Taylar Stewart (Hartwell, GA) hit a bomb head on from 30 yards out that bounded off the top of the bar and into the net. Freshman Emily Brown (Clemson, SC) got in on the act at 68:50 when Harpe’s pass found her at the top of the box and she ripped home the 6th goal of the game. Moments later, Harpe earned her hat trick when she finished off a pass from junior Taylor Craft (Anderson, SC) pushing the lead to 7-0.

Harpe’s three goals and two assists are the most points scored by an Erskine player in the Gary Winchester era. Erskine’s seven goals are the most scored by the Fleet in Winchester’s three seasons. Erskine improves to 1-4 on the season and 1-1 in Conference Carolinas, while Coker falls to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

The Lady Cobras next play on the road Monday, Sept. 21 when they travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to face Converse College at 7:00 p.m.
