Murfreesboro, N.C. – The Lady Cobras soccer team lost a tough match on Sunday afternoon to the Chowan University Hawks. The Hawks defeated Coker 2-1 with a goal late in the second half. The loss drops the Lady Cobras to 0-2 after their first week of play.

In a very evenly matched game, neither team was able to find the back of the net until the second half when Meredith McCarty put the Hawks on the board in the 57th minute. Coker evened the game at one apiece with a Sarah Kinsey (Windermere, Fla.) goal in the 70th minute. But it was Chowan’s Ashley Bradford that gave the Hawks the 2-1 victory with the game winning goal in the 83rd minute of the match.

Chowan out shot Coker 20 to 12, while the goalkeepers had almost identical matches, with Coker’s Carrie Hudnell (Goose Creek, S.C.) had five saves and Chowan’s Kristy Brown had six saves.

The Lady Cobras return to the field on Thursday, Sept. 3 when they host the Bulldogs of Wingate University at 7:00 p.m.
