Hartsville, SC- Coker College Head Women’s Soccer Coach, Tim Wolz, announced the signing of seven new players to the Cobras squad for Fall 2007. Of the seven, five are from South Carolina, while the other two hail from Kentucky and Florida. Coach Wolz said, “I am very excited about my first recruiting class here at Coker and I look forward to seeing each of these girls in action over the next four years.”

Casey Smith joins the Cobras from Somerset, KY, where she is a four-year letter winner in soccer at Southwestern High School. Smith is a four-time All-County Team selection, two-time All Region and All-District selection, as well as a three-time All-State Honorable Mention selection. She has been team captain for three years, is a member of the National Honor Society, the Honor Roll and has been given All-State Academic Honors. Coach Wolz said, “I have known Casey for many years and I am excited to have her play for us at Coker. She is a wonderful talent that could see some playing time as a freshman. She will adjust to the college game very quickly.”

Amanda McPhail from West Columbia, SC, is a four year letter winner from Dutch Fork High School. McPhail was a 2006 All-Region selection and is a member of the National honor Society, as well as being a South Carolina Junior Scholar and a Coker Junior Scholar. According to Coach Wolz, “Amanda will fill in at our outside midfield area where she can take people on and get into our attack. This was something that our team was missing last fall. Amanda is a wonderful young lady and has a competitive desire that we need.”

Katie Holliday is from James Island Charter High School in Charleston, SC, where she is the team captain and has led her team to the Lower State Finals twice. Holliday said she committed to Coker because, “the girls on the team made me feel right at home.” According to Coach Wolz, “Katie will be our other attacking forward and try to fill the big shoes left by graduating senior Megan Shaver.  She will be a great partner with Junior Kat Friedmann up front and make our attack much more dangerous.”

Mackenzie Hallahan is from Okala, FL, where she attended West Port High School and was a member of the volleyball, tennis, soccer and cross country teams. She is a two-time All-Area selection in soccer, as well as a team captain for soccer, tennis and volleyball. Hallahan is also a member of the National Honor Society and the Honor Roll. “Mackenzie is a wonderful young lady that will help fill our need in the defense.  She is a strong player with great potential and I am very excited to have her join our squad,” said Coach Wolz when asked about Hallahan.

Amanda Warner is from Charleston, SC, as well, where she is a four year letter winner in soccer, president of the National Honor Society, and two-time all-Region selection. Warner said she wants to attend Coker because she likes, “its small size and beautiful campus. Also she cannot wait to play college soccer.” When asked about Warner Coach Wolz said, “Mandi is a small player that will have to adjust to the physical style of college soccer but she has the attitude and desire to pick it up quickly.  She will help give us depth in the midfield area.”

Ashley Meador comes to Coker from Union High School in Union, SC. She has been named a Quad-County All-Tournament Team member, Offensive Player of the Year and Team Player of the Year. She is also a member of the Beta Club, French Honor Society and the Quill and Scroll Honor Society. Coach Wolz had this to say about Meador, “I am so excited to have Ashley on our squad next fall.  She has a love for the game that will help her adjust to the speed of college soccer.  She will get to learn behind great players like Ashley Garven and Stephanie Foster, and then fill in once they graduate.”

Carrie Hudnell will join the Cobras from Goose Creek High School in Goose Creek, SC, where she has been a four year letter winner and three year captain of the soccer team. Hudnell was a 2006 All-Region selection and she says she is “excited to play for Coach Wolz.” According to Coach Wolz, ““Carrie will also help fill our midfield needs.  She has good ball control and sees the field very well.  Once she gets used to the speed of play, Carrie will be help our team go to the next level.”
