MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – Lyndsay Brennan recorded her first collegiate hat trick, while Emily Anthony and Kirsten White added two assists apiece to lead Mount Olive to a 7-0 victory over Coker in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women’s soccer Tuesday at Trojan Field. The win is the Trojans’ fifth straight in conference play and sixth in their last seven matches overall.
Mount Olive (10-5-0 overall, 5-1-0 CVAC) got on the scoreboard just over three minutes into the match when Kate Painter beat two defenders in the corner and crossed to Emily Escolas, who scored from 12 yards out. The score stayed at 1-0 until the 28th minute when the Trojans capitalized on their fifth corner kick. April Jacobs headed Caitlyn Wright’s service to Brennan, who was open in front of the goal.
Brennan scored her second goal 10 minutes later when White stole a service in the Coker third and found Brennan in the box to give the Trojans a 3-0 lead at halftime.
The Trojans broke the game open early in the second half when Jacobs and Wright scored in a span of three minutes. Portia Taylor played a ball from midfield to Brennan, who found Jacobs in the box in the 53rd minute. Wright added an unassisted goal in the 56th minute when her corner kick from the right corner bent into the back of the net untouched.
Brennan, who has seven goals in her last three matches, completed her hat trick in the 68th minute on a double assist by Anthony and White. Anthony combined with Lauren Condon to assist on Painter’s goal in the 73rd minute.
