Hartsville, SC- Tuesday, September 26, the Coker College women’s soccer team hosted Barton College in a CVAC conference game. The Lady Cobras started slowly and Barton held most of the procession at the beginning of the game. With this high procession it wasn’t too long before the first goal came for the Bulldogs. Tara Davis, a junior from Richlands, North Carolina, opened up with the first goal. Davis was one on one with the keeper and slid it to one side to give the Bulldogs an early lead.

It didn’t take too long for the Bulldogs to increase the lead with Davis claiming two more goals later on in the first half. Davis’s 3rd goal was a great shot from outside the penalty box to the right side of the keeper. Late in the second half the Lady cobras started to gain some procession, but couldn’t quite convert some of their opportunities into goals.

The second half started much like the first with Barton dominating the field. Davis played a vital role in a goal scored by freshman Dillon Sauls. Davis and Sauls exchanged passes through the Coker defense and Sauls finished with precision past the Coker goalkeeper. Coker did notch one goal back in the middle of the second half courtesy of a great strike from senior Megan Shaver. Shaver controlled the ball outside of the box turned and blasted the ball over the keeper. However it didn’t mount much hope for the Lady Cobras as Ashley Earnest grabbed a goal late in the half for the Bulldogs. The final score was a convincing 6-1 win for the Bulldogs.

This moves the Cobras to 1-2 in the conference and 2-6 for the season. The next game for the Cobras is on the 30th September at home against Limestone College.
