Hartsville, SC- Sometimes things just take a little time. In the case of the Coker Women’s Soccer Team earning their first win of the season, it took four games, but they did it, defeating the Converse College All-Stars 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Coker College Soccer Field. Coker improves to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in the CVAC, while Converse drops to 2-3 overall, and 1-2 in the CVAC.

In the first half, both teams looked evenly matched and each had their fair share of opportunities to put some point on the board. The Cobras out shot the All-Stars 12-6, but neither side seemed more dominate than the other giving way to 0-0 tie at the half.

Then the second half came and Coker turned up the intensity. “We came out and really played with some passion,” said Coker Coach Tim Wolz, who earned his fist victory at the helm of the Cobras. “After we scored that first goal everything just seemed to flow and the girls really played well.” Coker’s first goal came from senior Megan Shaver in the 68th minute, who received a long pass from center back Shelly Heinzelman and took it all the way in for the goal.

Shaver struck again just two minutes later, this time with help from Bridget Clark, who fed Shaver a cross from 20 yards out and then buried it in the back of the net. The Cobras third and final goal came from Kathryn Freidmann with an assists from Jessica Ingle.

Converse totaled nine shots in the game with seven of them coming from Ashley Carry. The All-Stars goalkeeper, Kaitlyn Price, recorded 13 saves in the game, while Coker’s keeper, Krista Coleman, recorded six.

The Lady Cobras next match will be at St. Andrews Presbyterian College on Wednesday, September 13, at 4:00 p.m., while Converse hosts Queens University on Tuesday, September 12 at 4:00 p.m.
