Misenheimer, NC- In the first round of the CVAC Tournament Pfeiffer defeated Coker 2-0 Tuesday afternoon in Misenheimer. The game was very physical and saw hard play on both sides of the ball.

In the 13th minute Pfeiffer’s Laura Crews got through the defense but was turned away by a nice save by the Coker keeper Jamie Swift/Marietta, GA.  In the 15th minute Pfeiffer came on strong again, this time Ashley Bowman beat the Swift, but hit the crossbar with her shot.  The first goal came in the 17th minute, as Bowman was knocked down in the box and Maria Reis converted the penalty kick to give Pfeiffer a 1-0 lead.  Pfeiffer had one more good scoring chance late in the half when they received a free kick from 20 yards out.  Maria Reis delivered a beautiful shot that was headed for the corner but at the last second Coker’s Swift deflected it away.

The second half turned into an ugly foul-filled period.  Coker possessed play for nearly 25 minutes in the second half, but was unable to come away with a goal. It wasn't until  the 71st minute when the Falcon's Kaylee Luebke shot beat Swift, but hit the post and rebounded away that Pfeiffer had a chance to score.  Laura Crews finally put the game away in the 87th minute when she took a pass from Bowman, beat her defender and calmly slid the ball under the goalkeeper.  Jennifer Lindow picked up the shutout win for Pfeiffer.

The Coker Women complete their season with a record of 7-11 overall, and 4-8 in the CVAC. The Cobras made the playoffs for the second time in three years and Coach Ayer is excited about the future of women’s soccer at Coker. Like the men’s team the women will take a break until the spring when they begin spring practice and conditioning.

Pfeiffer will play Mt. Olive Friday in the CVAC semi-finals. The game will take place at 11:30 am at Belmont-Abbey College.
