GAFFNEY, SC:  The Limestone women’s soccer lost a heartbreaking senior day contest against Coker College Saturday afternoon.  The Cobras topped the Lady Saints 2-1.

Limestone sprinted out of the gates taking an early 1-0 lead less than three minutes into the game.  That goal was scored by senior Rachel Moreland off a perfectly placed cross from Kristina Gaylord.  The Cobras answered with their own intensity, with Kathryn Friedmann scoring 55 seconds later on a quick transition goal.  Both teams continued to battle through the rest of the half.

The second half was just as intense as the first.  Limestone kept the ball on the attacking side of the field, out-shooting the Cobras 17-4.  Just as it looked as though the game was headed to overtime, Coker’s Kathryn Friedmann scored her second of the game with 41 seconds left on the clock.  Coker was ecstatic with the last second goal for the 2-1 win.

“Coker played a great game,” said Head Coach Benji Walton.  “They never let up, and took advantage of the moments when we did,” Walton continued.

The Lady Saints finish the regular season ranked 6th in the conference, and will play in the first round of the CVAC tournament on Tuesday, November 1st against Barton College at 2:00 p.m. in Wilson, NC.
