Hartsville, SC- When it rains, it pours, and it rained on the Coker soccer teams Tuesday night, as both teams lost to UNC-Pembroke in collegiate soccer.

 

In the women’s game UNC-Pembroke dominated the Cobras early and often as the Braves defeated Coker 5-1. Coker tried to keep it close in going into the second half down 2-1, but the Braves shut down the Cobras in the second half by putting three more goals in the back of the net. The Cobras lone goal came from sophomore Shelly Heinzelman/ Chapin, SC off a direct kick from 40 yards out. The Braves were led by Melanie Cobb who had two goals in the game. Jamie Clark and Sarah Degnachew each chipped in a goal for UNC-Pembroke as well. With the loss Coker drops to 4-2 on the year, while UNC-Pembroke stays undefeated at 4-0.

 

Both Cobra teams take to the field again on Saturday, September 17, against CVAC opponent Belmont Abbey. The women’s game kicks off at 1 p.m. at the Coker Soccer Field, followed by the men’s competition beginning at 3 p.m.
