ANDERSON, SCJamie Slayton scored off a corner kick from Crystal Gaffney to give Anderson College a 2-1 victory over Coker in a CVAC women’s match Monday night at Smethers Field.

 

Anderson, 3-8-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the CVAC, dominated play. The Lady Trojans outshot the Cobras, 28-7. In the second half, Anderson had a 15-1 advantage in shots.

 

But Coker, 0-9-2 and 0-6, scored first on its first shot of the match at the 8:52 mark when Monica Winn/Chapin, SC connected off a breakaway down the right wing.

 

Anderson finally got the equalizer at 65:40 on a penalty kick by Ginny Cates.

 

Slayton, a junior from Hoschton, Ga., tallied the game winner at the 8:15 mark.

 

Anderson goalkeeper Meghan Woodall made three saves to pick up the victory, while Coker goalkeeper Jacqueline Stewart made 15 saves.
