Belmont, NC- The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team completed their second straight perfect CVAC season, shutting out Coker 2-0 on Senior Day at Belmont on Saturday.

Belmont Abbey (10-9 overall, 10-0 CVAC) controlled the play from the start, outshooting Coker (2-11-3, 2-8) 14-0 in the opening half. Only the strong play of Cobras goalie Jacque Stewart/Cumming, GA kept the game tight, as Stewart made five saves in the opening half. Belmont Abbey took the lead in the 30th minute when Erin Kolb converted on a penalty kick, and that would be all the scoring in the opening half.

Belmont Abbey kept the pressure in the second half, outshooting the visitors 17-3 in the second 45 minutes. Stewart again was strong, making 7 second half saves to give her 12 on the game. The score was still 1-0 until 6:11 was left in the game, when Daniela Ortega took a pass from Lindsay Megill, faked out Stewart and knocked the ball into the open net for the second and final goal of the game.

With the win, Belmont Abbey has now won 26 straight CVAC regular season games dating back to 2002, and will enter the CVAC tournament as the top seed. They will host a quarterfinal game Tuesday at 2pm against the #8 seeded team, which has not been determined yet. The semifinals and finals will be held at Belmont Abbey November 5th and 6th.
