Cobras take 12th in the Virginia Duals

Hampton, VA- Your Coker Cobras wrestling team went to Hampton, Virginia to participate in the Virginia Duals. The Cobras were the fifth seed in the tournament. Unfortunately, the Cobras fell short and finished the tournament in 12th place with a final record of 1-3 on the weekend.

Round 1 Champ Coker Vs Johns Hopkins

The Cobras started the tournament by taking on Johns Hopkins University in the first round. This match-up saw the Cobras losing in a close match-up 25-17. Stephen Spitko was the first Cobra on the board in this dual, winning by fall in 0:41 in the 133lb weight class. The next Cobra in the winner's circle would be Kymontae Wright as he won by technical fall with a score of 20-4 in the 149lb weight class. Noah Korenoski won his match-up as well in the 157lb weight class. Korenoski's match went all the way to the end as he won his dual with a 7-3 decision. The final Cobra to win in this dual was Anderson Hall in the 174lb weight class. Hall also went to the distance as he won by decision 9-4.

Round 1 Cons. Coker vs Davis & Elkins

The Cobras got their first win of the tournament in the second match of day two as they defeated the Davis & Elkins Senators. Corey Gallivan started the Cobras off to a hot start in this dual as he won his match by fall in 0:41 in the 125lb weight class. The 133lb weight class had Weston Bare keeping the Cobras in a winning way as he won by Fall in 5:48 to give the Cobras a quick 12-0 lead over the senators. The next Cobras to be in the winner's circle would be Kymontae Wright in the 149lb weight class as he won by major decision 24-15. Noah Korenoski gave the Cobras the last few points they needed to win the dual as he won by fall in 2:29 in the 157lb weight class. The Cobras won this dual with a final score of 28-17.

Round 2 Cons. Coker vs Muhlenberg

The third dual of this tournament for the Cobras was against the Muhlenberg Mules. The Cobras got off to a slow start in this match as they lost the first two duals by decision. In the 141lb weight class Frank Bianco was the first Cobra on the scoresheet, he won by decision 4-1. The next match to go the Cobra's way was in the 157lb weight class. Dustin Flinn got 3 more points on the score sheet as he won by decision 8-7 over the Mules. The final cobra to get points on the board was Austin Collins of the 165lb weight class as he won by fall in 6:15.

11th Place Match Coker vs Liberty

The final match of the Virginia Duals saw your Cobras taking on the Liberty Flames. The Cobras were off to a slow start in this match-up as they got their first points in the 157lb weight class. Noah Korenoski won by fall in 3:47 giving the Cobras much needed 6 points to get a comeback started. The comeback continued as Austin Collins in the 165lb weight class got the Cobras an additional 4 points after he won by Major Decision with a final score of 11-1. The Cobras won their next match as well with Cephus Deas in the 184 lb weight class winning by decision 7-2 giving the Cobras their final bit of points. Unfortunately, after the late push to try and get the match back in the Cobra's favor, the Liberty Flames saw this one out with a final score of 32-13
