
SPITKO AND GALLIVAN SHINE AT AVERETT
Danville, VA- The Cobras went on the road again to face off in the Averett Duals. The Cobras went against Averett University, Huntingdon College, and Wilmington College (OH). Coker went 2-1 on the day as the Cobras fell to Averett University in a close-fought match. Some of the stars for the Cobras on the day were Stephen Spitko and Corey Gallivan. For the second week in a row, the pair have gone undefeated in all their matches.
Averett University 20-18
The first match of the day was a loss to Averett University. The Cobras started off with a commanding lead, winning the first five matches of the dual. Stephen Spitko had the only Fall recorded for the Cobras in this dual, finishing the match in 1:20. Gallivan, Bianco, Gonzalez, and Korenoski all won their matches by decision and put the Cobras up 18-0 in the match. Unfortunately, that would be the last time the Cobras put any numbers up on the board as the final 5 matches all ended up putting Coker down 20-18 to finish off the first dual of the day.
Huntingdon College 18-27
The second dual of the day had your Cobras facing the Huntingdon Hawks out of Montgomery, Alabama. Again the first five wrestlers gave the Cobras a fantastic lead of 23-0 with Spitko winning by fall in 59 seconds. James Gonzalez in the 149lbs weight class had an impressive showing as he won by technical fall with a score of 15-0. The Hawks started to make a comeback on the Cobras late in the dual as they made the score 23-15 with two matches left. Kaleb Walley put the final blow into the Hawks as he won by a Major Decision 15-7 giving the Cobras the lead to close out the match.
Wilmington College (OH) 9-34
The final dual of the day was a victory over the Wilmington College Quakerman. This dual started out with Corey Gallivan who won by Fall in 1:35 putting the Cobras in a dream spot over the Quackerman. The Cobras sent out Weston Bare in the 133lb class to follow up with Gallivan. Bare did not disappoint as he won by technical fall 15-0 in 2:49 giving the Cobras an 11-0 lead. The third Cobra to stand out in this dual was Joshua Howell in the 174lb weight class. Howell was the second Cobra to win by fall in this dual as he ended the match in 2:26 giving the Cobras a 23-9 with three matches to go. The following matches saw Cephus Deas winning by a decision of 4-0, Kaleb Walley winning by a major decision of 11-0, and Kevin Mood winning by a major decision of 18-6. The Cobras finished the match with an impressive final score of 34-9.
