COBRAS SWEEP AT SAU QUAD MEET
Laurinburg, NC- Your Coker Cobras wrestling team had a clean sweep at the SAU Quad Meet. The Cobras took on Brewton-Parker, Southern Virginia, and St. Andrews University. The Cobras won their first match 36-19 against the Brewton-Parker Barons. Then the Cobras took on Southern Virginia and came out victors with a score of 36-13. Then Coker finished off their day on the road with a victory against the St. Andrew Knights.
Coker vs Brewton-Parker College 36-19
Corey Gallivan started the Cobras off in the 125 lb weight class. Gallivan won his match by Fall to get the Cobras off to a 6-point lead. Following Gallivan the number 7 ranked wrestler in the nation, Stephen Spitko, came to the mat in the 133 lb weight class where he won by Fall. The next headliner for the Cobras came from the 157lb weight class where Noah Korenoski won by Fall giving the Cobras a 24-6 lead over the Barons. Then rounding out the match Kaleb Walley and Kevin Mood both won by Fall to give the Cobras a comfortable win over the barons.
Coker vs Southern Virginia University 36-13
Corey Gallivan got the Cobras off to a winning start in their second match where he won by decision 16-10 to give the Cobras a 3-0 lead. Stephen Spitkok was up next where he won by Fall for the second time of the day winning in 1:02. In the 141lb weight class Frank Bianco took on his first match-up of the day. Bianco's match went all the way to the end where we had the upper hand and won by decision 8-3 over the Knights. Korenoski just like his counterpart Spitko won by fall for the second time of the day where he finished the match in 2:16. Kaleb Walley again found himself winning by Fall in the 197lb weight class bringing him to 2-0 on the day. Rounding out the match against the Knights was Kevin Mood who also went 2-0 on the day after winning by fall in 3:49.
Coker vs St. Andrews University 42-8
Mason Moody led the Cobras off in their final match of the day. Moody much like his counterpart Gallivan in the 125lb weight class won by fall giving the Cobras a perfect start to the match. Stephen Spitko for the third time of the day won by fall, this time coming the 1:57 going 3-0 on the day. Kymontae Wright found himself wrestling in the 149lb weight class. Wright fought hard and got the Cobras another 3 points on the scoreboard where he won by decision 9-7 over the Knights. Noah Korenoski wrestled in the 157lb weight class where he also became undefeated on the day and won by fall for the third time of the day. Cephus Deas found himself in the winner's column for the first time of the day where he won by decision 6-4 in the 184lb weight class. The last match for the Cobras finished just how it started. Kaleb Walley was the third Cobra to go 3-0 on the day where he won by Fall in 4:11 giving the Cobras a final score of 42-8 over the St. Andrews Knights.
Next for the Cobras
The Cobras are on the road as they travel to Averett University next Saturday.
