Spitko and Korenoski shine at PJ Smith/Pembroke Open
Pembroke-NC: The Coker wrestling team found themselves away from home to start the 2024/25 season at the PJ Smith/Pembroke Open. There were plenty of great matches for the Cobras, especially in the 133 and 157 weight classes.
In the 133lb weight class, Stephen Spitko found himself winning the bracket, going 4-0 after receiving a bye in the first round. Spitko went on to win his first 3 matches by TF and fall showing his superiority in the weight class. Spitko then went onto the 1st place match where he won on a major decision 11-1 over Chance Cottingham of UNC Pembroke.
In the 157 weight class, Coker found themselves with another 1st-place finish. Noah Korenoski went 3-0 in the tournament. Korenoski won his first match-up against Central Florida ending with a fall in 1:52. Korenoski then took on Limestone where he won by major decision 17-4. Then finally in the championship match, Korenoski won by decision with a score of 8-1.
