Wrestling Falls to UNC Pembroke and Belmont Abbey

PEMBROKE, N.C. - The Coker University wrestling team dropped a pair of South Atlantic Conference Carolinas matches on Saturday (Feb. 5). The Cobras fell to Belmont Abbey College by a score of 34-12 and to UNC Pembroke by a 43-11 margin.

In the first match of the day against Belmont Abbey, freshman Stephen Spitko picked up the victory by fall 4:01 into his 125 pound tussle against Abbey's Brandon Crowder. The Crusaders would then go on to rattle off eight consecutive victories to take a 34-6 lead. Heavyweight sophomore Hamilton Cooper would salvage a victory by fall over Justin Wright at the 1:37 mark.

The second match of the day against UNC Pembroke was not any easier for the Cobras as they would only collect two victories. The first came at 133 pounds as freshman Hunter Ross earned the decision by technical fall over Anthony Carter 17-1. The second was earned by senior P.J. Wunderlich, as he got the victory by fall over Pembroke's Joey Perez at 157 pounds.

The Cobras will be back in action on the mat Thursday (Feb. 10) when they host Emmanuel (Ga.) for senior night. Live video and statistics are available at www.cokercobras.com
