Wrestling Lends a Hand at Chesterfield County Schools

CHERAW, S.C. - Hurricane Florence made its way to the Carolinas last week and hovered over the Palmetto and Tar Heel states, dumping massive amounts of rain over the region. Many homes, businesses, and schools were impacted by the storm, including Long Middle School and Cheraw Intermediate located in nearby Chesterfield County. With water making its way into many areas of both schools, Coker College wrestling decided to step up and lend a hand to their neighbors.

"Giving back to the community is a major core value for Coker wrestling," said Head Wrestling Coach, Derrick Nelson. "Helping the areas impacted by Hurricane Florence is the least we can do."

This past weekend, Coker wrestling traveled to the nearby schools and ripped up wet carpet from multiple areas in each school. The Cobras managed to take out the moldy carpet from two wings in Long Middle School and four rooms in Cheraw Intermediate.

"I am proud of each guy who helped get these students back in class," stated Nelson. "I want to thank Chesterfield County School District and Eldon Henderson for inviting us out to help."
