
Coker Competes at Newberry Duals
The Cobras won two of their three dual matches and shut out one opponent.
NEWBERRY, S.C.- The Coker wrestling team competed at the Newberry Duals on Sunday (Dec. 13), winning two of its three dual matches.
The Cobras dropped their morning tilt to Cumberland 27-12. Derrick Nelson picked up yet another win by fall at 133 pounds, and Jordon Tague won by decision 8-3 at 149. Temaris Dixon picked up a win at 197 by decision 5-1.
Coker rebounded and defeated Spartanburg Methodist 43-6. Curtis Harris picked up a major decision win at 141 pounds 12-3, while Derrick Booth collected a 12-8 decision win at 174. Luis Peguero earned a quick fall win at 184 just 1:37 into the match, and Temaris Dixon (197) earned an even quicker victory by fall in 1:04. Derrick Nelson (133), Rashad Cunningham (149), Jamal Lackey (157) and Austin Akins (285) all received wins by forfeit.
The Cobras then finished out the day shutting out Brewton-Parker 48-0. Charlie Huff picked up an 8-2 decision win at 125, while Derrick Nelson picked up a 16-0 tech fall win at 133. RaSean MacArthur continued Coker's streak winning 12-4 for a major decision at 141. Jamal Lackey (165) picked up the quickest pin of the day, ending the match in just 26 seconds. Derrick Booth gutted out a 3-1 overtime win at 174, while Luis Peguero (184) earned a shutout decision 5-0. Jordon Tague (149), Shabo Gorial (157), Temaris Dixon (197) and Austin Akins (285) each earned a win by forfeit.
The Cobras will hit the mats again when they travel to Indianapolis for the Midwest Classic next Friday (Dec. 18).
