Cobra Wrestling Falls to No. 14 Newberry 28-6
The Coker wrestling team lost 28-6 to nationally ranked No. 14 Newberry on Friday (Jan. 2).
HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker Cobras lost 28-6 to the nationally ranked No. 14 Newberry Wolves in collegiate wrestling action on Friday (Jan. 2) afternoon.
Derrick Nelson and Derek Rothermel picked up the two victories in the match for the regionally ranked No. 7 Cobras.
Nelson picked up a hard fought 4-3 win at the 133-pound weight class. The junior picked up the one-point victory after tying the match with an escape and then pulled out the win with over a minute of riding time.
In the 157-pound match, Rothermel earned an impressive 6-5 win. Down 5-3 heading into the final period, Rothermel picked up a take down and an escape to earn the 6-5 victory.
The Cobras will return to the mat on Friday (Jan. 9) for the Coker Duals. The duals will begin at 9 a.m. at Coker's DeLoach Center.
