HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cobras got off to a slow start in this game with the final score of the 1st period being 5-3. The Cobras were down by two in the first 5 minutes of the game but that didn't stop the Cobras from finding the back of the net. The freshman, Jessica Pintado, was fouled in the circle and calmly scored her free-position shot for her first goal of the game. Shortly after Pintado was given a free position shot fellow freshman, Leah Corely scored her first goal of the day to level up the game with half of the first period left to go. Less than a minute later the dynamic duo of Kate Halcro and Mia MacMillan combined with the beautiful give-and-go to give the Cobras their first lead of the game. The Fighting Scots leveled up the match in the 13th minute of the period on a man-up opportunity due to a Mia MacMillan and Kaiya Sabur green card. Edinboro's attack worked quickly at the end of the 1st period as they scored twice more to take a 2-goal lead going into the 2nd period with two goals in the last minute of the period.
The 2nd period of this game saw a goal-keeping masterclass as Olivia Schmidt had 5 saves in this period only allowing 2 goals to go into the Coker net. The Cobras outscored their opponent in this period with the first of the Cobra goals coming from a free position shot that was dispatched by Mia MacMillan to claw a goal back from the Fighting Scots. Edinboro regained their 2-goal lead as they scored a free position shot of their own shortly after the Cobras. To go along with the goal-scoring theme of this period Leah Corley was given a free position shot of her own that she scored with ease for her second goal of the day to put the Cobras within one of the fighting Scots. The scoring came to a bit of a lull due to the heroics of Oliva Schmidt in goal. But the Cobras offense came alive once again in the 10th minute of the period as team captain Mia MacMillan scored her second goal of the day with a beautiful juking move to get around 3 defenders to score an unassisted goal to bring the Cobras level in this one. To finish off the scoring in this period the Fighting Scots were finally able to get through the Cobra defense to take a 1 goal lead into halftime.
After the short break in play the Fighting Scots came out ready as they took first blood in the 3rd period. However, a freshman duo of Kate Halcro and Leah Corely combined in the tenth minute of the period to cut the visitor's lead down to one. In the final two minutes of the period, both teams traded goals as Leah Corley got her third goal of the day to bring the Cobras level for a short time until 40 seconds later the the Fighting Scots got a second goal of their won to keep their one-goal lead going into the final period of regulation.
To continue the trend of this game the visiting Fighting Scots took first blood in this period in the 2 minutes of the 4th period. However, once again Leah Corelyl and Kate Halcro combined for another goal as Halcro got her 2nd goal of the contest. 1 minute later the Fighting Scots took another opportunity to get a two-goal lead in the 9th minute of the period. However in true Coker fashion this year the Cobras comeback from a deficit in the dying moments of a game. Mia MacMillan scored her 3rd goal of the day to bring the Cobras within one of the visitors in the 10th minute of the game. Then the Cobras 4th period hero was Kate Halcro as she scored the tying goal for the Cobras to send this game to overtime.
After the first period of overtime, both teams were given chances to win the game but no one could find the winning goal as both teams traded shot for shot. The deadlock couldn't be broken until 30 seconds into the 2nd period of overtime when the Fighting Scots found a pocket of space that they took full advantage of to end this game with a final score of 12-11.
