Cobras Fall Short to Catawba in Road Trip

Salisbury, NC - The Coker University Women's Lacrosse Team dropped a mid-week match up against Catawba by a score of 13-7.

Catawba started off up in the first quarter, goals scored by Joey Baillie and Kylie Harris, both goals scored off free position shots. Hailey Morgan found her footing not long after and landed the Cobras first goal of the game, taking the Indians lead down to one. Finishing out the first quarter, Joey Baillie and Kylie Harris scored once again and took Catawba's lead up by three. The Cobras with plenty of fight left, put up a quick goal in the second quarter; scored by Madeline Fontana (assist from Hailey Morgan). Hailey Morgan (assist from Abby Gross) and Abby Gross (assist from Hailey Morgan) followed Fontana's lead and claimed another two goals for the Cobras, the game tied up at 4-4. To finish out the second quarter, Catawba rattled off three goals and took the score up to 7-4.

Kicking off the third quarter, Hailey Morgan scored off another free position shot and earned the Cobras their fifth goal. Madeline Fontana taking advantage of a man-up opportunity, registered her second goal of the game and brought the score back within one point. With three goals from Joey Baillie, Catawba reclaimed the lead. Despite push-back from Catawba, Amariah Lawson found her way to the cage and claimed the final goal for the Cobras. Catawba went on to score another three goals to close out the game and sealed the score at 13-7.

Zoe Cotheran played between the pipes for the entire 60 minute game. Cotheran registered 14 saves out of 27 shots. 

The Cobras will be returning to the field on Saturday (April 1) against Limestone. The first draw will take place at 7:00 PM in Hartsville, SC. Live streaming and stats will be available at www.cokercobras.com
