Women's Lacrosse Takes Down St. Andrews

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University women's lacrosse team picked up their first victory of the season on Friday (Feb. 18) by an 11-8 margin over Saint Andrews University.

The two teams struggled to find the back of the net early on in the game, as the score remained just 1-1 after the first quarter. The lone Coker goal of the frame came from Hannah Shuren at the 7:40 mark. The Cobras came alive in the second and third quarters as they scored six consecutive times for a 7-1 margin behind the strength of goals from Shuren, Meagan Gallagher, Annabelle Chuilli (2), Olivia Fladung, and Bailey Johnson

The Knights would not go away easily however, as they scored six times unanswered to draw the score back level at 7-7. The Cobras would go on to outscore the Knights 4-1 over the final eight and a half minutes to clinch the victory.

Coker was led by Hannah Shuren's hat trick and assist, while Annabelle Chuilli and Makenzie Stroup each added two goals apiece. Stroup also had two helpers on the night. Meagan Gallagher, Bailey Johnson, and Abby Gross each had a goal to contribute to the Cobra effort, while Gallagher added an assist to her season tally. Abby Kellner recorded 11 saves in between the pipes.

The Cobras will be back in action Tuesday (Feb. 22), when they host Emmanuel College (Ga.) at the Coker Athletic Field. First draw is scheduled for 7 p.m., with live video and statistics available at www.cokercobras.com
