Coker Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Lenoir-Rhyne in Conference Opener

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker University women's lacrosse team fell to Lenoir-Rhyne 18-10 in its first conference game of the season on Wednesday (Mar. 3).

Lenoir-Rhyne took a 2-0 lead through the first five minutes, before Gabby Jessup got the Cobras on the board nine minutes into the half. Lenoir-Rhyne scored five consecutive goals, before Alexis Zegan stopped the streak with a free position goal with 15 minutes to play in the half. Her shot prompted a 4-0 run for the Cobras as Hannah Shuren and Meagan Gallagher added to the scoring column to make it a two-goal game at 7-5. Alyssa Baronella-O'Toole scored another free position goal of the half in the final two minutes after a goal from Lenoir-Rhyne. Makenzie Stroup did the same in the final 32 seconds of the first half.

The Bears surged to an 8-0 run to start the second half. Baronella-O'Toole stopped the run with two straight goals five minutes apart. Shuren scored the final goal of the game.

Baronella-O'Toole and Shuren combined for a team-leading six goals. Amariah Lawson led Coker with three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Jessup and Shuren recorded an assist each. Abby Kellner finished the game with five saves.
