Marabeth Durden Named Interim Head Women's Lacrosse Coach

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Marabeth "Marty" Durden was named the interim head women's lacrosse coach at Coker University, announced by Vice President of Athletics and Athletic Facilities Dr. Lynn Griffin today (Tuesday, Aug. 27).

"We are fortunate that Marty has decided to return to Coker as our interim head coach," said Griffin. "She had an outstanding playing career for us and has been successful as the high school coach at Timber Creek. I look forward to watching her guide this team."

Durden joined the staff as a graduate assistant earlier in the summer before being named interim head coach. Durden recently worked as an elementary school teacher at Azalea Park Elementary School and a girl's lacrosse coach at her alma mater Timber Creek High School. While coaching at Timber Creek High School, she was named East Metro Conference Girls Coach of the Year.

Durden had an outstanding playing career for the Cobras from 2013-17, etching her name across the Coker women's lacrosse record books in several categories. She was a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative as well as a two-time C.G. Timberlake Female Athlete of the Year (2014-15, 2015-16).

"I am extremely excited to be back at Coker and coaching the women's lacrosse team," said Durden. "I want to thank Dr. Griffin and President Wyatt for this great opportunity, and can't wait for the season to begin in the spring!"

A 2017 graduate of Coker, the Orlando, Fla. native holds a Bachelor's of Arts in early childhood education with a concentration in elementary education. She is currently pursuing her Master's of Science in college athletic administration at Coker.
