HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College women's lacrosse team (10-3, 5-1 SAC) picked up their fourth straight victory by defeating Tusculum (5-10, 3-4 SAC) by a score of 19-14 in South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday (Apr. 8) afternoon.
It was a record-setting day for both Faith Kent and Haley McCusker. McCusker broke the team single-season goals record with her 52nd goal when she scored with 8:42 remaining in the first half to give the Cobras an 8-5 advantage. Not to be outdone, Kent then set the team single-season points record when she scored with 15:20 remaining in the second half to give Coker a 13-9 lead. Kent broke her own record of 65 points from a year ago, and currently has 66 with four regular season games remaining.
The Cobras opened the game hot, scoring three times in the first 4:14. Kent scored the first two goals and then assisted on the third. She'd wind up with 4 goals and 3 assists on the afternoon. Coker extended their lead to 6-1 before Tusculum used a 6-2 run of their own to drop the margin to 8-7 at halftime.
Tusculum's Madison Malone tied the game at 8-8 just two minutes into the second half, but the Cobras responded with goals from McCusker, Lindsay Ordemann, Marabeth Durden, Bailey O'Brien, and Kent's record-setter to jump out to a 13-9 lead. Durden added two more goals throughout the second half, to give the senior a career-high of five goals on the day.
The Cobras are back in action at the Coker Athletic Field on Wednesday, April 12th when they take on Point University in a non-conference match at 5:00 pm.
