Women's Lacrosse Branching Out into the Community
The Coker women's lacrosse team partook in the 9/11 Day of Service Saturday (Sept. 6) and it sparked a new initiative.
HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker women's lacrosse team got down and dirty on Saturday (Sept. 6) for the 9/11 Day of Service. The team walked a little over a block from campus and cut grass, trimmed bushes and raked leaves for two elderly Hartsville women. The service project was the kick-start to a bi-weekly initiative by the team to help the terminally ill and elderly with their yard work in the Hartsville community.
"Our 9/11 project turned into something bigger than us," said head coach Chelsea Kent. "Yard work seems easy, but when you are terminally ill or elderly it can be a hassle. It is a lot of people in the surrounding area that can use our help and we want to make sure we do our part in making things easier for them."
You can catch the Cobras in action on Saturday (Feb. 14) when they open the season at home against Lees-McRae College.
