Women's Golf Finishes the Jekyll Island Intercollegiate on Tuesday

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga.  - Coker University women's golf finished up the Jekyll Island Intercollegiate on Tuesday (Oct. 19), finishing seventh out of 17 as a team.

Kathleen Escobar led the way with an 18th-place finish individually, shooting a 78, while Daniella Gyoni (T-22) and Mack Taylor Bailey (T-37) each turned in a 79 on the day. Lora Ledbetter improved her score from the day before with an 80, while Jenna Werle turned in an 86 on the day.

"We got off to another slow start today in the windy conditions but were able to reel it in on our back nine to finish seventh of 17 schools," said head coach John Hackney. "We were 18 over over par on our front nine and 10 over on the back. Our top three ladies fired just four over total on the last nine holes, which was excellent! We only had one birdie today among our four counting scores. We needed some more of those to counter our bogeys. We are consistently holding our own now with some of the best teams in our region and conference, but we want more. Despite the slow start, our score of 316 was just two strokes behind the winning team in Lincoln Memorial. Kathleen had a solid tournament, thanks to 1-over on her last nine today, and Daniella finished 22nd after playing her last nine at even par. Mack rebounded from an early double bogeys to shoot 79 and Lora had a hot start (two over through nine) before making bogeys on four of her last six holes. We have next week off before finishing the fall at Converse's event at Halloween. This group is showing great progress, so I can't wait to see what they do."

The Cobras return to the links on Halloween (Monday, Oct. 31) at the Converse Fall Invite at Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg, S.C.
