Women's Golf Has Strong Day One Of SAC Championships

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University women's golf team opened up play at the South Atlantic Conference Tournament Championships hosted at Hartsville Country Club. The women are competing against some of the top nationally-ranked teams.

In round one Coker shot 318, their second best score of the season and best score this spring. The Cobras currently sit tied for eighth.

Katie Smith sits tied for 13th after round one. Smith shot a 77 (+4) on the day. Jena Werle shot a 78 (+6) and sits tied for 22nd. Lora Ledbetter shot an 81 (+9), Jordan White shot an 82 (+10), and Haylie George shot an 86 (+14).

"I would like to see our young ladies post a round under 310 tomorrow. If we do that, we have a shot to move into the top four or five teams. We are only eight shots out of fifth and 11 out of fourth, so we have 36 holes to keep climbing the leaderboard," said Head Coach John Hackney.

Coker is back in action tomorrow for round two, with tee times starting at 10:09 a.m., with video and live stats available at www.cokercobras.com
