COACH DEVORE NAMED SAC WBB COACH OF THE YEAR, TILLMAN NAMED SAC PLAYER OF THE YEAR, AND TILLMAN, WASSWA, AND THOMPSON NAMED TO THE ALL-SAC TEAMS
Rock Hill, SC - After securing a regular season SAC title, the Cobras are bringing in some hardware! As announced by the conference office this morning, Head Coach Melissa DeVore is your 2024-25 SAC Women's Basketball Coach of the Year! Additionally, Shawnteanna Tillman is your SAC Women's Basketball Player of the Year! She was also a First-Team All-SAC honoree, with Mya Wasswa named Second-Team All-SAC and Kamari Thompson named Third-Team All-SAC.
Melissa DeVore - Head Coach
DeVore has led the Cobras to a record-breaking season, recording a 24-4 overall record this season. The record for overall wins (24), conference wins (20), and consecutive wins (14) were all set under her watch this season. She has developed three all-conference members this season, with Tillman going from 6.6 points per game last season to 17.4 points this season. She has the team ranked Top-25 in DII WBB in multiple defensive statistics, along with leading the Cobras to a SAC regular season title and the number one overall seed in the postseason tournament.
Shawnteanna Tillman | G | Columbia, SC
Tillman has come alive this season for the Cobras, averaging 17.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.1 steals per game. She has logged eight games of 20+ points this season and is on pace to break the single-season points record in Coker Women's Basketball history (record is 489, currently sitting at 487). She has been the focal point for the Cobras offense, a go-to scoring option when you need a spark. She also gets it done on the defensive end, supplying energy wherever it is needed the most.
Mya Wasswa | G | Columbia, SC
The senior guard has been a great complimentary piece this season with averages of 13.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game. Other than Tillman, she has been the only member of this Cobra team to start every game this season (28/28). She has had six games of 20+ points this season, including two back-to-back 21-point outings in wins over Barton and #21 Carson-Newman.
Kamari Thompson | F | Greenville, SC
Thompson, a sophomore for the Cobras, was named a preseason "DII WBB Player of the Year" candidate by TNT Sports' Wayne Cavadi, an honor that is bestowed upon the best returning players in all of DII Women's Basketball. She holds averages of 7.1 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game on the year and has been an extremely underrated part of the Cobras' success this season. Lucky for the Cobras, they have her for another two years to experience her all-conference-level efforts.
The Cobras are now primed for a run in the SAC Postseason Tournament, starting off play on Tuesday at 5:00 PM ET against the eighth-seeded Saints from Limestone. Make sure to catch the Cobras live at the Rock Hill Sports Complex or on the FloSports Network!
