Hartsville, SC - Coker Women's Basketball is riding the wave, making it a seven-game win streak and 4-0 in the calendar year with a win this evening over Catawba. The 58-50 win was a low-scoring affair that was powered by defense and transition buckets.

How It Happened:
The Cobras played a tight defensive game in the first half but couldn't quite get it going, only scoring 21 points in the first two quarters combined. Most of those were scored in the first quarter, as a Thompson putback extended the game to a 15-11 lead to end the first quarter.
The second quarter was one to forget offensively, only recording six points in the quarter and trailing 24-21 at the halftime break. It could have been a 24-19 game if not for a pair of Dasia Ferguson free throws with under a minute left to make it a one-possession contest.
Out of the break, the Cobras took the lead at 25-24 off a made layup by Wasswa en route to a huge third quarter. A stifling defense by the Cobras allowed only three points from the Catawba Indians in this quarter, with the only points coming from a three-point jumper more than seven minutes into the period. A huge boost came when McKaylee Allen made a pair of three-pointers on back-to-back possessions to extend the lead from 30-27 to 36-27.
The Cobras were able to use the momentum from this quarter and put the game away in the fourth, leading by as much as fifteen in multiple points in the ballgame.
Notables:
This seven-game win streak is tied for the longest in the modern recorded era (since 2008). The streak they are tied with? Well, that was set this season as they started off 7-0 before a loss to Anderson. This has also been the best start in school history with a 14-1 record thus far. The Cobras reached a national ranking of 16th by the WBCA (their highest ranking ever) this week, and look to obtain an even higher ranking next week with a win today.
Up Next:
The Cobras will travel to Tusculum to take on the Pioneers this weekend. The Cobras beat the Pioneers 86-54 to begin this current win streak and will look to have a similar outing to extend that streak. That game will take place on Saturday at 2 PM ET and can be watched live on the FloSports Network.
