WOMEN'S BASKETBALL OPENS NEW YEAR WITH ROAD WIN AT BARTON
Wilson, NC - The Cobras started 2025 on the highest of notes, downing the Barton Bulldogs by a convincing 78-64 scoreline.
Coker won every individual quarter except the last en route to the victory. Up by 20+ at points in this ballgame, the final result was never in doubt. Thirteen Cobras saw court time with ten of those thirteen contributing to the scoring column.
The two shining stars for Coker were none other than Mya Wasswa and Shawnteanna Tillman, who both contributed 21 points for a combined 42 (over half of the total Cobra points scored in this contest). Wasswa had her 21 on stellar percentages, going 6-10 from the field and 4-5 from three to go along with 4 steals and a block. Tillman also pitched in 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
Other Coker contributors included Mariah Mitchem (7 points, team-high 7 assists, and 2 steals) Kamari Thompson (6 points, 7 rebounds), and Cayanna Stanley (9 points on 3-5 from the three-point line).
The Cobras return to Hartsville for what is shaping up to be their toughest test yet on Saturday against Carson-Newman. Both teams are currently ranked in the DII WBCA Top 25, with the Eagles ranked 15th and the Cobras ranked 23rd. That contest is scheduled to tip off in the DeLoach Center at 2:00 PM ET.
