WOMEN'S BASKETBALL STARTS 2-0, DOWNS #25 UNC PEMBROKE
Florence, SC - What a start for Coker Women's Basketball as they make it a 2-0 weekend with a convincing 64-52 victory against the nationally-ranked #25 Braves of UNC Pembroke.
This was a comfortable win for Coach Devore and her squad, scoring the first five points of the ball game and not trailing for a single minute of this one. At one point, they had extended the lead to 19 off a Shawnteanna Tillman three that put them up 46-27. They held a double-digit lead and secured the big neutral-site victory over a top team in DII women's basketball.
Dasia Ferguson was the star on offense in this one, recording a game-high 16 points on incredible percentages (75 percent from the field, 50 percent from three). Mya Wasswa (15 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists) and Tillman (15 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists) paced Ferguson as the other two in double-digit scoring. Mariah Mitchem also had a great game defensively, pitching in 8 points while recording 9 rebounds and a whopping 6 steals.
After a busy first weekend of play, the Cobras will take a break and resume play on Tuesday, November 20th, when they will host Wingate in what will be both their home opener and South Atlantic Conference opener. Tip-off for that contest will be at 5:30 PM ET and will be followed by the men's basketball home and conference opener.
