Women's Basketball Drops Conference Tilt at Anderson (S.C.) on Saturday

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Coker University women's basketball team dropped its South Atlantic Conference tilt at Anderson (S.C.) on Saturday (Jan. 30) by a sore of 73-59.

The Trojans jumped out to early leads of 7-0 and 12-2 over the first few minutes, before the Cobras found their offensive rhythm to get back in the game. Coker got back within four with six minutes to play in the quarter, before the Trojans quickly stretched their lead back to eight. Coker would get back within three toward the end of the period, as Anderson took a 20-17 lead to the second.

Anderson kept the Cobras at a few possessions' distance in the second quarter, before stretching their lead into double-digits less than four minutes into the quarter. The Trojans would hold their double-digit lead all the way to the half, taking a 39-27 lead to the break.

The Trojans extended their lead further in the third and fourth quarters, holding the double-digit lead until the final horn.  

The Cobras shot 32.8 percent from the field on the day, aided by five three-pointers. As a team, the Cobras were perfect from the foul line on the day, marking a season-best performance (10-10). Raya Coley led the Cobras with 21 points, and nearly missed a double-double with a team-high nine boards. Abigail Keesling added 16 points, while Emily Davis also scored 12 points. Davis also tied the single-game free throw percentage school record with a perfect 6-6 performance from the foul line, marking the first perfect day from the foul line since Shay Jackson went 6-6 against Tusculum back on Jan. 11, 2020. Haley McClure and Valicia Demeritte each scored four points in the game, while Avahna Baker also chipped in two points. McClure pulled down eight rebounds for the Cobras, while Keesling and Demeritte each grabbed six rebounds and Baker added five. Keesling dished out two assists in the game, while Coley and McClure each added one.

The Cobras return to action on Wednesday (Feb. 3) to host Lenoir-Rhyne in South Atlantic Conference action. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. from the DeLoach Center, with video and live stats available at www.cokercobras.com.
