Women's Basketball Polishes Off Senior Day with Victory over UVA-Wise on Saturday

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University women's basketball team polished off its 2019-20 Senior Day with a 79-73 win over UVA-Wise on Saturday (Feb. 29).

Coker jumped out to a 6-2 lead through five minutes, before UVA-Wise would go ahead 10-6 with under three minutes to play in the first quarter. The two teams played to a 10-10 tie with a minute and a half to go in the opening quarter, before UVA-Wise would take a 15-12 lead to the second quarter.

The Cavaliers jumped out to an eight-point lead in the first two and a half minutes of the second quarter, before Coker would rally to take a 25-24 lead with just under five minutes to play in the frame. The teams battled to a 28-28 tie with two and a half minutes to play in the first half, before Coker would take a 34-33 lead to the locker room.

UVA-Wise would go ahead b one in the first three and a half minutes of the third quarter, before taking a six-point lead with four minutes to play in the quarter. Coker would get back within one with just under three minutes to play in the frame, before UVA-Wise would take a 50-49 lead to the fourth quarter.

The teams would go back and forth through the first few minutes of the fourth quarter, before locking up at 57 three minutes into the frame. Coker would extend its lead to eight with just over two minutes to play, before holding UVA-Wise at a few possessions' distance until the final horn.

Erin Houser and Saquita Joyner each scored 19 points to lead the Cobras on the day, while Hayley Kropp and Shay Jackson each added 11 points in the win. Four other Cobras contributed points in the win. Coker dominated UVA-Wise on the glass in the game 42-23, led by 16 boards from Houser to complete the double-double. Hope Richardson also pulled down 10 rebounds in the game, while six other Cobras were active on the glass. Four different Cobras dished out two assists each, while another four Cobras each registered one helper apiece. Houser and Emily Davis each had two steals on the day, while Richardson, Janell Horton and Joyner each picked up one steal in the game. Richardson also recorded the lone block on the day for Coker.

This concludes the 2019-20 women's basketball season.
