Cobras Upend Lenoir-Rhyne for South Atlantic Conference Win on Saturday

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University women's basketball team upended Lenoir-Rhyne 59-54 for a South Atlantic Conference win on Saturday (Feb. 15).

Coker led after a low-scoring first quarter 11-8, where the biggest gap between the teams was four points.

Coker would post a second quarter win out-scoring Lenoir-Rhyne 14-10 to take a 25-18 lead to the half. The Cobras extended their lead to seven past the halfway point of the quarter, before L-R would get back within four with a minute to play in the frame. Coker would extend its lead to seven again before the half.

Lenoir-Rhyne would respond by winning the third quarter 18-11 to send the teams to the fourth quarter tied at 36. Coker would stretch its lead to 10 through the first three minutes of the quarter, before L-R would get back within six. L-R would get back within three with three minutes to play in the frame, before tying the game with under two minutes to play in the quarter. L-R would go ahead 36-33 on its final possession of the quarter, before Erin Houser drained a near-halfcourt triple at the buzzer to tie the game at 26 headed to the final 10 minutes.

The two teams would trade buckets through the first four minutes of the fourth, to be deadlocked at 45. Coker would respond with a run that put the Cobras ahead by 10, before L-R would get back within six in the final minute. Coker would ice the victory from the free throw line.

Houser led the Cobras with a game-high 23 points, while Hayley Kropp also contributed 10 points in the victory. Six other Cobras scored in the victory. Coker out-rebounded L-R 39-33, led by a game-high 13 boards from Houser to complete the double-double. Six other Cobras were active on the glass in the win. Jalah Horton led the Cobras with five assists in the game, while Shay Jackson dished out two and Emily Davis and Kropp each added one. Horton and Saquita Joyner each registered two steals in the game, while three others each had one steal. Hope Richardson recorded the lone block in the game for the Cobras.

The Cobras are back in action on Wednesday (Feb. 19) to host Anderson (S.C.) in the annual Play 4 Kay game to show support for breast cancer awareness and research. Please come wearing pink! Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m., with video and live stats available at www.cokercobras.com.
