Women's Basketball Drops Conference Tilt at Queens (N.C.) Wednesday Night

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Coker University women's basketball team dropped its South Atlantic Conference tilt at Queens (N.C.) Wednesday night (Feb. 5) by a score of 65-58.

Queens (N.C.) jumped out to leads of 5-1 and 9-2 early on, before reaching a double-digit lead at 15-5 with three minutes to play in the first quarter. Coker would get within seven in the final few minutes of the first quarter, before the Royals would close the first quarter on a run to go back up by 12 at 23-11.

Coker would get back within six in the first two minutes of the second quarter, before the lead would fluctuate between five and eight past the halfway point of the frame. The Cobras would rally to tie the game at 31 with 55 seconds to play in the half, before a three-pointer from Tia McMillan at the end of the half put the Royals up 34-31 headed to the locker room.

Coker would get within two in the first minute and a half of the third quarter, before Queens would inch its lead back up to double-digits over the course of the quarter. The Royals would take a 48-37 lead to the fourth.

Queens would extend its lead to as many as 16 in the fourth quarter, before the Cobras would battle back to trim the deficit to single digits in the final minute. Queens would run out the clock to defend its home floor for the victory.

Erin Houser used a strong fourth quarter to finish with a team-high 17 points in the game, while Hayley Kropp finished with a season-high 15. Five other Cobras contributed points in the contest. Hope Richardson paced the Cobras with 12 rebounds, while Houser finished just one short of a double-double with nine. Five other Cobras were active on the glass. Emily Davis, Kropp and Houser each dished out two assists in the game, while Richardson also added one. Kropp also had a team-high two steals in the game, while five others each posted one steal apiece. Richardson led the Cobras with two rejections in the game, while Houser also had one.

The Cobras return home on Saturday (Feb. 8) to face Carson-Newman in South Atlantic Conference action. Tip-off for that contest is slated for 2:00 p.m. from the DeLoach Center, with video and live stats available at www.cokercobras.com.
