Cobras Fall in Division I Exhibition Against Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Coker University women's basketball team fell in their Division I exhibition at Georgia Southern on Wednesday (Oct. 30) by a score of 93-66.

 The Cobras came out of the gates quickly when Hope Richardson scored the first points of the 2019 season just 10 seconds into the game. A jumper by Ashauntee Nelson would extend the Cobras lead to four. Georgia Southern would answer with a three-pointer by Tatum Barber. The Cobras would then stop the run with a pull-up jumper by Shay Jackson. Coker would score the final bucket of the first quarter bringing them within three going into the second.

 After a close first quarter, the Eagles began to pull away in the second going on a 10-0 run to push their lead to 44-26.

The Eagles would make a free throw to start the third, and the Cobras would then go on to score five unanswered. Ga Southern would then go on to score eight unanswered to round out the third quarter.

Coker's Amanda Cherry would make two free throws to start the final quarter, but Coker's valiant effort fell short when the final horn sounded.

Four Cobras scored double digits in the game. Shay Jackson lead the Cobras in scoring with 16 points, while Amanda Cherry was close behind with 12.  Erin Houser notched 11 points, while Nelson added 10 for Coker. Houser and Jackson shared the team lead in rebounds with six, while three different Cobras dished out assists on the night. Five different Cobras recorded steals, while Houser (two) and Nelson each had blocked shots in the game. 

The Cobras will be back in action on Saturday (Nov. 9) when they travel to Mount Olive for their first regular season game at 7:00 p.m.
