MARS HILL, N.C. - The Coker College women's basketball team knocked off Mars Hill University 87-71 on Monday (Jan. 21) night in South Atlantic Conference action.

The Cobras jumped out quickly in the first quarter and took a three point lead into the second quarter, but that would be just about as close as the Lions would get over the final 30 minutes with Coker dominating the night. Mars Hill cut the Coker lead to just two early in the second quarter, but the Cobras rallied off a 19-6 run to storm ahead into a 15 point lead late in the quarter and eventually head into halftime up by nine. The third quarter would prove to be the difference as the Navy and Gold scored 28 in the quarter, while only giving up 13. Coker would cruise to victory in the fourth quarter, taking the game by a final score of 87-71.

Shay Jackson led the Cobras with a double-double, going for 14 points and 13 rebounds. Both Hayley Kropp and Saquita Joyner finished with 13 points each, while Ashauntee Nelson also hit double figures with 11 points. Erin Houser followed up Jackson's double with one of her own with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Amanda Cherry and Hope Richardson scored six points each, Elizabeth Kincaid and Jalah Horton recorded four points a piece, and Aloni McFarland and Raya Coley both notched three points.

The Cobras will be back in action on Wednesday (Jan. 23) when they make the trip to Newberry for a 6:00 PM tip.
