BREVARD, N.C.- Coker women's basketball picked up its first win of the year on Saturday (Dec. 10) when they downed Brevard on the road 75-70.

The teams played a high-tempo first quarter, finishing the frame tied at 16. The Cobras led in the frame only briefly, but maintained intensity and were able to tie the game late in the opening quarter. The teams traded buckets throughout the frame, and Iresha Cooper was able to come up with the steal and breakaway layup to get Coker's final two points of the quarter.

The second quarter was a big one for the visitors, as Coker scored double digits in both quarters of the first half for the fifth time this season. The Cobras outscored Brevard 16-10 in the frame, and ended the quarter on a 10-0 run to take a 32-26 lead to the locker room. The Cobras trailed 26-22 with four minutes left before a Kendra Lambert three-pointer got the Navy and Gold within one. A Terrika Foster made layup put Coker up by one, before a bucket from Cooper would extend the lead to three. Cooper would make one final play to end the half when she was fouled on a made jump shot. The junior sunk the free throw and sent the Cobras to the break with the lead.

The Cobras were outscored 25-20 in the third quarter, taking a 52-51 lead to the final frame. The visitors rebounded with a strong fourth quarter, outscoring Brevard 23-19 and making free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

Cooper finished with a team-high 21 points, while Foster added 15. Sydney Shull chipped in 15 and Lambert notched 10. As a team, Coker shot 55 percent from the field and 81 percent from the free throw line. Coker out-rebounded Brevard 37-19 overall and 33-14 on the defensive glass. Coker's bench also outscored their counterparts 20-6 in the win.
