Late Surge not Enough for Cobras Against Belmont Abbey

NEWBERRY, S.C.- The Coker women's basketball team dropped its second game in the Stokes-Trainor Conference Challenge to Belmont Abbey 68-64 on Saturday (Nov. 12).  

The Cobras kept the game tight in all four frames, scoring double-digits in each quarter and outscoring the Crusaders 13-6 in the third quarter. The Cobras trailed 20-16 after one quarter, and remained behind 42-34 at the half after a back-and-forth second quarter.

Coker trailed into the third quarter, but gathered momentum after the third quarter media timeout. A key layup from Caitland Considine brought the score to 49-47 with one minute left in the frame. The Cobras took a brief lead in the fourth quarter on a three-pointer from Kendra Lambert, and the teams would battle it out from there. The Crusaders were able to manage about a one-possession lead from then on to the final buzzer.

Terrika Foster led all Cobras scorers with 14 points, while Kendra Lambert added 12. Along with Iresha Cooper's nine and Sydney Shull's eight points, six other Cobras contributed points.

The Cobras come home to take on UNC Pembroke in the home opener on Monday (Nov. 14). Tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m. at the DeLoach Center. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
