Crusaders Sneak Past Cobras on Final Day of Sodexo SAC/Conference Carolinas Challenge

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker women's basketball team lost 75-72 to Belmont Abbey College in game two of the Sodexo SAC/Conference Carolinas Challenge on Saturday (Nov. 15) night.

Belmont Abbey and Coker would battle fiercely in the first half, but senior Hailey Yohn would send the Navy and Yellow into the break with a 33-30 lead after knocking down a three as time expired in the half.

The stalemate would continue in the second half, as neither team enjoyed a lead larger than five points. Following a layup with a minute remaining in the game, the Crusaders would take a 75-70 lead over the Cobras. However, senior Tanesha Stenson's forced turnover after a layup would give Coker a chance to tie the game with 10 seconds. The Cobras' last second shot would fall just short and Belmont Abbey would squeak out a 75-72 win.

Leading the way for Coker was Stenson with a game-high 23 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Kelley Godbout tallied 13 points and seven rebounds, while Yohn scored 13 points and grabbed six boards. Heidrun Kristmunsdottir led the Cobras with a game-high six assists and three steals.

The next time the Navy and Yellow hit the floor will be in a conference tilt Newberry College on Wednesday (Nov. 19) night. The SAC matchup is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
