Coker Drops OT Heartbreaker to Wingate

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker women's basketball team lost a 54-52 overtime heartbreaker to Wingate University on Wednesday (Feb. 19) night after a last second layup.

Defense was the name of the game in the first half, as Coker trailed 19-16 heading into the locker room.  The Navy and Yellow came out of the break and quickly took control after they made the first two buckets of the second half.  Coker would continue to control the scoreboard for most of the second half, but the Bulldogs would eventually rally to tie the score at 45-45 to force overtime.

The score would remain tight throughout the extra five minutes and would ultimately lead to a 52-52 tie with just under a minute to play in the first overtime.  As the clock continued to tick closer to zero, Coker committed a costly turnover with just 10 seconds left.  Then out of a Bulldog timeout, Amber Neely dribbled up the sideline and into the lane to score a layup as the buzzer sounded.

Tanesha Stenson and Jessica Cohen led the Cobras in scoring for the night, with 14 points each.  Cohen also added six boards to her stat line, along with one block.  Priscilla Fenty had a dominating performance in the paint with 15 rebounds.  Fenty was just two points shy of a double-double, as she finished with eight points total.

Coker will play their final home game of this season this Saturday (Feb. 22) as they host Anderson (S.C.) in a SAC competition.  Game time is slatted for a 2:00 p.m. start time, followed by the men's game at 4:00.
