Cobras Amp Up to Play Lions in SAC Clash

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker women's basketball team will host Mars Hill University on Saturday (Feb. 8), in a South Atlantic Conference competition.  A live video webcast will be available at www.cokercobras.com

In the first meeting between the Cobras and Lions, Mars Hills narrowly escaped Coker with a 57-54 win.  Hailey Yohn and Jessica Cohen led the way for the Navy and Yellow in that competition with 18 and 16 points, respectively.

Saturday will be a pivotal game for Coker, as they are currently in a three-way tie for fourth place in the SAC standings.  The Cobras will be leaning on the offensive production of Tanesha Stenson, Yohn, and Cohen.  The junior guard duo of Stenson and Yohn lead the team in scoring with 14.7 and 9.9 points per game respectively, while Cohen is responsible for 9.7.  Priscilla Fenty and Kelley Godbout have proven to be key contributors as well with 9.1 and 8.0 points per game.

Mars Hill is entering the stanza on a four game losing streak, with their most recent coming in an 86-74 loss at Brevard.  The Lions are headed by Ansley Ricker, who leads the team and is third in the conference with 17.7 points per game.  Kelsey Espinosa also averages double-digit scoring for Mars-Hill with 11.0 points per game.

Tip-off will begin at 2:00 p.m., followed by the men's game at 4:00.  Tickets for the game can be purchased at the door for $5 dollars for adults, $3 dollars for students, and are free to all Coker students, faculty, and staff.  Saturday's game is also Play 4Kay day.  Donations will be collected during the game to raise funds for breast cancer research.
