Coker Falls Short at Wingate

WINGATE, N.C. – The Coker women's basketball team was defeated by Wingate University on Thursday (Jan. 30) in a 68-63 SAC matchup.  Coker now sits at 9-8 overall and 7-6 in conference play.

Wingate jumped out to a seven point lead after a 12-5 offensive run to start the game.  The Cobras however countered with a 10-2 run of their own to take a 15-14 lead with ten minutes remaining in the first half.  Coker would then go on to keep the one point lead with a 29-28 advantage at the break.
The second half produced a similar story to the first, with the Bulldogs building a lead only to have it disappear as Coker battled back.  With three minutes remaining in regulation the score was tied at 57 after a Hailey Yohn trifecta.  Wingate would then go on to hit back-to-back jump shots to increase their lead by four.  Yohn would hit another three to put the Cobras down by one, but solid free throw shooting from the Bulldogs would eventually give them the win.
Yohn lead all scorers for the Cobras with 17 points, followed Jessica Cohen with 12.  Kelley Godbout was next on the scoring list with 10 points.  Both Cohen and Godbout lead the rebound category, with five each.

Coker will continue their road journey as they travel to face Lincoln Memorial on Saturday (Feb. 1).  Game time is set for 6:00 p.m., followed by the men's game at 8:00.
